My Review...
I jumped at the opportunity to read and review the latest installment of Little Miss History. She is my favorite traveling companion to learn more about America's history. She's already taken us to the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, and Sequoia, sharing accurate and little known details that bring history alive... So when I saw Barbara's next choice for Little Miss History to travel to was Ford's Theater, I will admit I was surprised. Does it warrant special feature? Absolutely... Was I skeptical? Yes... But I read on knowing that little Miss History knows best.
First off, I want to commend the illustrator. The illustrations are wonderful as usual. I particularly got a kick out of little miss wearing the 3-D glasses on her way to the theater. This book really helps make history seem alive.
I was happy to see my initial concerns were not warranted. The book goes over more than just the infamous assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. It describes the history of the theater from its inception to its current purpose. It doesn't sugar coat history, but rather describes the theater, the assassination, and details what happened to the theater afterwards. Little Miss History has given me another lesson in this country's past, and I appreciate it. She doesn't gloss over any of the important pieces and in fact offers the smaller details that can get overlooked.
Another treasure for the library and my children's education.
